Rebel Yule

Log If I were home tonight I'd probably TiVo this for later so that I could watch it over and over, every time Dr. Phil came on.

Washington Recount

Best quote of the week: "We're confident Christine Gregoire has been elected the governor of the state of Washington," Democratic Chairman Paul Berendt told the AP. "I believe Dino Rossi should concede."

There were 2.9 million votes cast for governor. At this point, preliminary data from the second recount shows Ms. Gregoire with an 8 vote lead.

Yes, by all means, Mr. Berendt. Ask the Republican candidate to concede now. You might want to wait by the phone, so you don't miss their call.

Slow down a little there, son.

dede dede dadada; News quiz, news quiz

Quiz me!
Swaziland. When Preston asks me about what a king does I will refer him to the Swan-Swaz volume of the encylopedia to look up this guy.
Bill pointed out that the Japanese trend is unsettling. I read the article and I think he was referring to the ear cleaning. I am privy today to a bit of knowlege today that I was not six months ago. Thanks to IFC and MPLS/St.Paul magazine I find that ear wax tidbits, like celebrity deaths, come in threes.
There are two kinds of earwax. Chromosome 16 determines whether a human has wet earwax, like me or another euro-african westerner, or dry, like a Japanese guy. Like so many aspects of their culture, the care of the ear is different and a more ritualized part of intimate relationships. In Chinese and Japanese culture there are tools and and techniques that I am way unlikley to encounter.
A Japanese person explains and shares photos from their novelty ear wax tool collections. Hello Kitty?

Zamboni explodes

Broomball disruptedI am in Tucson. It would take a community ed class to explain this story to the local populace. I am amazed again that the flatter the topography of an American city the more difficult it is to find a properly laid out parking lot. Why not try a grid?

Stop the contest; we have a winner.

This is a page detailing all the mistakes and problems this guy has seen in tv over the years. I'm no longer taking bets on whether body parts are discovered in his freezer.

A refreshing mix of creepy and pathetic

Book of Ratings

In case you haven't visited for a bit, here's a reminder of a good site.

Book of Ratings: Chess Pieces

Plus, Mr. Cohen will have his long suffering self-esteem bolstered by knowing that I wasn't aware of en passant until now.

"But he was also wearing an oversized CHOOSE LIFE t-shirt, which saved him"

Maybe they could change the code to mean that the patient has a boil The hospital also uses a WWJD bracelet to identify patients who are on a low sodium diet but that really hasn't led to a lot of trouble.

I, pod.

Is there a radio so that I can use my Mr. Microphone? Bill sent this and a look a the pictures raises the concern that I would either have to change pants to use the car in one case or that my car itself would wear pants in the other.

On time and on your mind. It's the Word News Quiz

Quiz me! Ok, until I can get a button to launch a new window I will stick to hyperlinks for now.
Bill got four, I got a miserable two and am at risk of being replaced by a genetically modified improvement.

Button!

I may never use regular links again.

Is there a minister in the house?

I'm a minister. What seems to be the trouble? Ted located this handy link for those who sometimes feel left out of the posts here that are ecumenical in nature. You don't need a DDV to hang with the crowd, just get yourself ordained online and you'll be officating in no time. I didn't sign up so that I can dramatically get ordained sometime at the last minute to save the day, figuratively.

Uncle Cranky

For fans of the straight dope, this is a fun exchange betwixt Uncle Cecil and someone who tries to correct him.

Vatican Rag

Oh, there it is

Quiz me! Scott 5, Bill 4. How did you do? Hey, that's not bad.

It's the anglophone. It's for you.

Quiz my green self! The BBC News quiz has gone into hiding this week. In the meantime we are pleased to share this difficult quiz aboutchanges in the earth's climate. I got two and Bill got four. It's hard to guess between what is alarming and what is simply as bad as it sounds.

Do you have pictures of Venus?

Wanna buy some? I had no idea. The Soviets totally ruled Venus exploration. Check out the people's spcaecraft I read a novel several years ago called "Oman Ra" which was about brave Soviet citizens that went into space inside spacecraft like these to pretend that the sophiticated mechanical parts were robotic or remote controlled. I suspect these are actual pictures and that there were no small soviets inside taking the pictures.
